Prof. Sculean shows treatment of soft tissue defects on teeth and implants

In Sehnde near Hanover, an intentionally small group of participants could look forward to speaker Prof. Dr. Dr. Anton Sculean, M.S. In the morning, the participants followed the theoretical explanations of this experienced user and much sought-after specialist in the field of periodontal surgery, under the necessary hygienic requirements and with sufficient distance.

The topics covered were surgical techniques to gain attached mucosa, the use of new materials for the regeneration of soft tissue on the tooth and implant, and postoperative aftercare, to name just a few of the topics.

As part of the stoma® Academy course series 2021, this workshop of course had a large practical part. With selected microsurgical instruments from the Concept of Bern, which Stoma developed and put together in close cooperation with Prof. Sculean, as well as the sutures and blades recommended by him, the participants were allowed to practice on pig jaws. Under the guidance of this specialist, they learned, among other things, harvesting a connective tissue graft, suturing techniques for closing the donor site on the palate, fixing the graft to the periosteum, adapting the grafts and closing the tunnel.

Prof. Anton Sculean is Director of the Clinic for Periodontology at the University of Bern, author of more than 420 publications in peer-reviewed journals, currently ranked number 1 worldwide according to the World Ranking of Top Experts in Periodontology and has received numerous research awards.
