Close to the expert – real practice, honest exchange, lasting learning success

Last weekend, an intensive course of the Stoma Academy took place in Frankfurt under the title “The Bern Concept for the Treatment of Soft Tissue Defects at Teeth and Implants – Prevention and Therapy of Peri-implantitis.”

The speaker, Prof. Dr. Dr. Anton Sculean, M.S., one of the leading experts in the field of plastic-aesthetic periodontal and peri-implant surgery, captivated participants with his expertise. In the theoretical part, Prof. Sculean provided in-depth knowledge on the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of peri-implant infections, as well as modern surgical techniques for managing recessions and soft tissue defects. Special focus was given to innovative approaches for soft tissue regeneration and the long-term maintenance of implant health – always aiming for predictable clinical outcomes.

The practical section featured intensive hands-on training on pig jaws. Participants practiced microsurgical techniques such as the modified coronally or laterally advanced tunnel and various suturing methods for graft fixation and defect coverage. Prof. Sculean was fully engaged throughout the course. The open exchange and enthusiasm – especially during the hands-on sessions – were clearly felt.

The instruments from the Concept of Bern, specially developed with Prof. Sculean, along with suitable scalpel blades and suture materials, were provided by Stoma as always. A thoroughly successful course with high-level knowledge, practical skills, and highly motivated participants.

Two more Stoma Academy workshops with Prof. Sculean will follow this fall – one in German (1 day), one in English (2 days). For info and registration, visit www.stoma-shop.com.
