This included, among others, harvesting a connective tissue graft and creating a modified coronally advanced tunnel (MCAT) as well as a laterally closed tunnel (LCT) to cover singular and multiple recessions. Due to the small group size, Professor Sculean was able to respond specifically to the questions of the individual participants. In the hands-on section, the participants could use the appropriate stoma instruments and sutures, and Geistlich also supported the workshop with biomaterials.

During the theoretical part the speaker also showed videos and clinical pictures of cases with a not optimal result. This provided authenticity and illustrated what is feasible and what is not. During a brief tour through the production department, the participants learned how much manual work and know-how is necessary for the manufacturing of dental instruments.

Speaker Prof. Dr. Dr. Anton Sculean, M.S. is a well-known specialist and since 2008 director of the Department of Periodontology at the University of Bern. The 15-year collaboration with Professor Sculean was honored by Martin Mazzeo, Executive Board, with a gold-plated, personalized mouth mirror and an anniversary book for Stoma’s 100th anniversary. Together with Professor Sculean, Stoma developed the Concept of Bern, consisting of different instrument sets for current non-surgical, surgical and plastic-aesthetic techniques, such as the tunneling technique, recession coverage and soft tissue management.

Arno Fuhrmann, who was there to accompany the course, has been a loyal independent stoma sales representative for 37 years. He was also given a mouth mirror and an anniversary book.
